FileUtils extends macOS Finder with advanced file operations that aren't available in the default file manager. Instead of switching to Terminal or another separate application, FileUtils integrates directly into Finder's contextual menu and toolbar, letting you batch rename files, manage POSIX permissions and Access Control List (ACL), create new files, synchronize and merge folders, browse files by size, calculate checksums, perform secure file deletion and many other operations - all without leaving Finder. Perfect for system administrators, developers, and power users who need more control over their files.

FileUtils POSIX file permissions window showing user, group and other permissions, including SetUID, SetGID and Sticky bits

POSIX permissions

Manage file owner, group and every bit of full POSIX permissions, including SetUID, SetGID and Sticky bits.

Full POSIX file permissions are obscured on macOS behind terminal interface and its commands. With FileUtils they are accessible in a convenient graphical user interface, with even more advanced features, like SetUID, SetGID and Sticky bits. All permission bits are available one click away in the Finder's contextual menu.

FileUtils Access Control List (ACL) window showing combined list of ACL entries for different users and POSIX file permissions

Access Control List

For even finer file access control, use powerful Access Control List and its full featured editor.

Access Control List (ACL) is another gem hidden on macOS behind terminal interface and commands. FileUtils presents ACL in a visual way, making it super easy to understand, modify and save. Indispensable in multiuser environments (both on a single machine or in networks), ideal for network administrators and power users.

FileUtils file effective access window showing all file permissions and whether they are allowed or denied for a particular user

Effective file access

See effective file access, for every access type and for every user and group in the system.

With the unleashed power of POSIX permissions and ACL, it may be challenging to figure out what actual access to a particular file any user or a group has. FileUtils's "effective file access" overview is ideal to reveal this, showing all allowed and denied access types to the file for every user (on a single machine or in networks).

FileUtils file dates editor showing pickers for creation, modification, last access, added to and attribute modification dates

Change any file date

Modify all available file dates, using expressive date components or UNIX timestamps.

Changing file timestamps seems like an unimportant thing, until you actually need it. The only way on macOS is diving into terminal. FileUtils makes it much easier with a nice and comprehensive graphical user interface. Quickly change creation, modification and any other file's date supported by macOS and underlying filesystems.

FileUtils batch file rename window showing sequence of renaming patterns and list of files with their original and target names

Multiple files rename

Rename multiple files at once, with feature rich, flexible and save-enabled renaming sequences.

Batch file rename is perfect for organizing photos, movies, documents, or any other batch file renaming task. Use text and regular expressions (RegEx) removal and replace, letter case substitutions, number sequences and file attributes insertion to create powerful renaming patterns and sequences. And you can save them for later use.

Size browser

Discover which files are taking space on your disks with graphically rich hierarchical size browser.

With FileUtils, delete the files immediately and permanently directly from Finder's contextual menu or toolbar.

FileUtils provided Finder contextual menu items for new file creation action with some common file types empty templates

Create any new file

Create new "empty" file of any kind supported by installed applications, as well as symbolic links.

Instead of opening your default file editor, creating and editing a new file and saving it under a particular name, use FileUtils to create a new "empty" file directly from Finder's contextual menu and give it a name immediately if you want to. Newly created file will be automatically opened in your default file editor for the new file's type.
